Yes, it’s essential to quit smoking well before your surgery. Smoking can severely complicate your surgery and recovery. It inflames your lungs, complicates anesthesia, increases the risk of blood clots, and leaks and reduces blood flow, which can impair wound healing. To minimize these risks, it’s recommended that you stop smoking at least 6 weeks before your surgery.
