PROCEDURES
Gastric Balloon
Lose 30% of your Excess Weight or 10% of your Total Weight.
About the procedure
The gastric balloon is a temporary, non-surgical weight loss solution that helps you feel full with less food. It occupies about 30% of your stomach, creating a sense of fullness that lasts longer. The balloon's most significant effect occurs in the first 4 to 6 months, and it remains in place for up to 1 year.
How is it Inserted?
The gastric balloon is placed while you’re under mild sedation using an endoscope to guide it. Once positioned in your stomach, the balloon is filled with 400 to 550 ml of liquid, taking up roughly one-third of your stomach. After the procedure, which usually takes about 20-30 minutes, you’ll be able to go home the same day.
Benefits of the Procedure:
- Non-surgical: No incisions or surgery are required.
- Outpatient procedure: You can return home the same day.
- Adjustable: The volume of the balloon can be adjusted if its effect weakens or if you experience discomfort.
- Suitable for a range of patients: A good option for those who are overweight or not candidates for bariatric surgery.
Concerns to Consider:
- Temporary solution: The balloon must be removed after 12 months.
- Potential for weight regain: Some patients may regain part of the lost weight after the balloon is removed.
- Intolerance: Around 10% of patients may not tolerate the balloon and could need early removal.
